Beauceron
The Beauceron is a large and distinguished French herding and guard dog with a heritage dating back centuries.
Originally developed on the plains of northern France to herd sheep and cattle whilst protecting property, this noble breed became one of France's most valued working dogs, serving as a messenger and patrol dog during both World Wars.

About the Beauceron
Today, the Beauceron remains a testament to French breeding excellence. These powerful dogs stand 64–71 centimetres at the shoulder and weigh 32–50 kilograms, with a muscular build and striking black and tan coat. A distinctive feature unique to the breed is the double dewclaws on their hind legs, which are required by breed standards. The Beauceron's confident and courageous temperament makes them deeply loyal family companions, though they remain naturally reserved and watchful around strangers. Highly intelligent and eager to work, they excel in obedience, tracking, and protection roles, thriving when given purposeful tasks. However, their size, strength, and independent nature mean Beaucerons require experienced, consistent handling from puppyhood. They demand more than two hours of exercise daily alongside substantial mental stimulation to stay balanced and content. In the right household, a well-socialised Beauceron becomes a devoted and impressive companion, combining loyalty with the discipline of a true working dog.

Beauceron Characteristics
The Beauceron requires significant daily exercise and outdoor time and is very responsive to training and loves to please. They are a fantastic choice for families with children, but don't need constant company, though they do enjoy being around people. The coat needs brushing a couple of times a week to stay in good condition and leaves some hair around the home but isn't excessive. Exceptionally clever, they thrive when given jobs to do or puzzles to solve.
